Ramble’s Favorite Campsites in Texas

Texas is a big state and if you’ve spent any time traveling through it with an Airstream, you know how much variety there is. From wide-open desert to hill country to the coast, there’s no shortage of places to camp. Over time, we’ve picked up a few favorites — spots we either keep coming back to or consistently hear about from customers.

1. Palo Duro Canyon State Park (Panhandle)

If you haven’t been, it’s worth the trip.

Palo Duro is one of those places that feels completely different from the rest of Texas — dramatic canyon views, long hiking trails, and campsites that give you some space.

Why we like it:

  • Unique landscape you don’t get elsewhere in Texas
  • Good mix of developed sites and more remote areas
  • Great for longer stays

2. Garner State Park (Hill Country)

A classic for a reason.

Garner gets busy, especially in the summer, but it’s hard to beat if you’re looking for a mix of river access, shade, and a well-established campground.

Why we like it:

  • Easy access to the Frio River
  • Well-maintained sites
  • Good for both quick trips and longer weekends

3. Inks Lake State Park (Hill Country)

If you’re looking for something a little more laid back than some of the bigger parks, Inks Lake is a solid option. It’s known for consistent water levels, which makes it a good choice year-round.

Why we like it:

  • Reliable water access
  • Scenic views without the heavy crowds (depending on timing)
  • Easy to navigate with a trailer

4. Big Bend National Park (West Texas)

This one speaks for itself. Big Bend is a commitment, but if you’re set up for it, it’s one of the most rewarding places you can take an Airstream.

Why we like it:

  • Completely off-the-grid feel
  • Incredible night skies
  • Endless space to explore

What to keep in mind:
This is where having a well-prepared setup matters — power, suspension, and overall reliability all come into play out here.

5. Mustang Island State Park (Coast)

If you want something completely different, head to the coast. Mustang Island gives you the ability to camp near the water, with long stretches of beach and a more relaxed pace.

Why we like it:

  • Coastal camping experience
  • Great for longer, slower trips
  • Easy access from major cities

A Few Things We Always Keep in Mind

No matter where you’re headed, a few things make a big difference:

  • Know your setup — power, water, and towing capability
  • Plan ahead for popular spots — especially in peak seasons
  • Be ready for variation — terrain, weather, and site conditions can change quickly

And depending on where you’re going, the right upgrades (power, suspension, connectivity) can make the experience a whole lot better. If you’re getting your trailer ready for the next trip, we’re always here to help make sure everything’s dialed in before you hit the road.
